Do Not Stone Her Alone

Dr. Hala Mustafa, the chief in editor of “Democracy” magazine is facing an investigation in the journalists syndication and this is just the start ; what did Dr. Hala do ??

She hosted the Israeli ambassador in Cairo Shalom Cohen in some lecture in Al Ahram center for political and strategic studies.

According to the laws of the syndication , she did something wrong as the laws of the journalists syndication are clear : No normalization with Israel , No Israeli officials in the Egyptian newspapers HQs.

But was she the first Egyptian journalist to do such huge sin ?? Was she the first Al Ahram journalist to do host Israeli officials in the Al Ahram building ??

I do not think so , Dr. Abdel Manam Said who has headed Al Ahram recently is from the most famous pro-normalization with Israel and from the Copenhagen group with late Lotfy El-Kholly.

Al Ahram administration says the Ambassador came to the building without its permission despite the fact I believe to host such heavy guest Dr.Mustafa knows that she should take the permission from several parties including the ministry of foreign Affairs and the ministry of national security.

I do not know why I feel what is happening with her now has to do with what happened with her in NDP last year , may be the NDP hawks waited for her to make such a mistake so she would in a weaker position.

Hala knows what she is facing and she is threatening to reveal all the names of journalists in Al Ahram who deal and host Israeli officials in the state owned newspaper building !!

By the way there is a strange rumor for the first I read online in a Syrian website that Israel wants to buy Al Ahram !!! Not in the theoretical meaning but the real meaning !!I do not know from where they got this rumor , Israel is not crazy that much to think in this way.

  1. I think the laws of the syndicate are unjournalistic. journalists schould not think & act like politicians. there duty is to report. thats why it´s necessary to talk with people. even if they are officials of israel.

  2. There is too much debate about these laws already, still the law here did not ban reporting from Israel or having interviews with Israeli officials but the ban is on the relations beyond reporting like the excessive visits to Israel , hosting Israeli officials in the HQs of the newspapers and magazines..etc

Arab countries shouldn't even allow Israeli embassys to open in their cities!

  5. Whatever happened to freedom of press? Whatever happened to the press to start with? when people are not allowed to interview an official of a different country. There is no point in being a journalist if you can't take on those challenges!
I totally support her, whether she interviewed him or not should be her choice to make!

    An appalled journalist!

  8. I support the Palestinian cause but I think this is ridiculous. I don't see the point of having an Israeli embassador in Egypt if the man can't even leave his apartment! Apparently they could not do anything about this sad reality (the Israeli embassy) so they decided to shoot the messenger instead.
